US prosecutors have revealed that charges have been filed against an Iranian national with alleged ties to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) for planning to assassinate US statesmen John Bolton and Mike Pompeo.
According to outlet ‘The Cradle’:
“According to the charges, 45 year old Shahram Poursafi offered $300,000 to an individual in the US to kill Bolton, and said he had a “second job” for $1 million, allegedly referring to Pompeo.
Poursafi has not been arrested and remains at large. The person he contacted in the US was working as an FBI informant, according to CNN.”
As maintained by the charges, the alleged FBI informant can only be known as a “confidential human source”, and the posited motivation as “likely in retaliation” to the assassination of IRGC-Quds Force General Qassem Soleimani by a US drone strike in January 2020.
In the wake of the completleyl disproven Russiagate allegations and the predictably fruitless McCarthyite witchunt that followed, the US DOJ may wish to offer more than suggestively worded reports premised on the integrity and honesty of confidential information and sources, if wishing to convince the US electorate.
Alleged target of the plot, John Bolton, also offered a statement, saying:
“While much cannot be said publicly right now, one point is indisputable: Iran’s rulers are liars, terrorists, and enemies of the United States,” Bolton said. “Their radical, anti-American objectives are unchanged; their commitments are worthless; and their global threat is growing.”
Bolton himself has recently boasted on National TV networks of having orchestrated coups against democratically elected governments across the world, bearing responsibility for the bloodshed and murder they entail, yet seems horrified at the prospect that a foreign power would dare follow his example.
Iran has dismissed the claims, with foreign ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani stating:
“Continuing their endless accusations against the Islamic Republic of Iran … the US judicial authorities, in a new yarn spinning, have raised accusations without providing valid evidence and necessary documentation,”
Adding that:
“Such baseless claims are made with political motives … creating propaganda [to evade] the responsibility of responding to numerous terrorist crimes that Washington has either directly participated in, such as the cowardly assassination of General Soleimani, or like the terrorist crimes committed by the Zionist regime and terrorist groups like ISIS with the support of the US,”
While the US’ allegations remain murky und unsubstantiated, there exists evidence and admission of US involvement in the continuing murder and assasinations of Iranian scientists and political figures by Israeli secret service, Mossad, in both Iran and Iraq.
The Islamic Republic has on several times requested an Interpol red notice for Trump and 47 other US officials who played a role in Soleimani’s assassination. Yet the crimes of the US and other Western imperialist powers, again go unchallenged by the international community, who irrespective of the facts maintain their incessant proclamations on the importance of international law and a “rules based international order”.
